Theo Gallino was born in Poirino in 1957; he lives and works in Chieri (TO). After studying advertising graphics, he devoted himself to painting, sculpture, photography. Experimentation with different techniques and materials has accompanied him constantly since 1989, the year of his first solo exhibition at the Dialoghi Gallery in Biella by Francesco Poli (who will present it the following year at the Center of Art Contemporain in Girona). The common denominator in the thirty and more years of his career is the presence of a plot, a network of references from one job to another, in which instinct for survival, strength of imagination and sense of time find full resolution in relationship only with man. In fact, Gallino’s research leaves the purely lyrical and dreamlike dimension to become something that founds a new awareness of change also in an evident and modern identity, as well as in a social and ecological sense. The use of the bubble wrap in many of its cycles is not only an interesting investigation into the material and a personal element of formal decoration, but represents the painful metaphor for anesthetized emotions of contemporary humans. Among the latest exhibitions we mention ‘Communicazione con guanti’, Palazzo Lomellini, Carmagnola (TO) curated by Tommaso Trini; ‘Mito Moto Meta’, Nadia Bassanese art studio, Trieste edited by Maurizio Sciaccaluga (1995); ‘Theo Gallino’ Personal, curated by Edoardo Di Mauro, Velan Centro d’Arte Contemporanea, Torino (2002); ‘Viaggio con Keith Haring’, Alfonso Giannone Gallery, Forte dei Marmi- Pisa; ‘AA. VV. Autori Van’, Biasutti & Biasutti, Torino (2005); Fondazione Ca’ La Ghironda, Museo d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Zola Predosa, Bologna (2008); ‘Fumetto Proibito’, Spazio 6, Verona (2009); CRAB, (Centro Ricerca Accademia di Brera Ex San Carpoforo church), Milano (2011); ‘Codex’, Spazio Maurizio Colombo, Torino (2013); ‘Alchimie e trasparenze’, edited cy Cinzia Tesio, Salone della Provincia, Cuneo (2014); ‘Mimetico non solo’, curated by Edoardo Di Mauro, Galleria Spazio, Torino (2015); ‘Proposizioni’, by Raffaella A. Caruso, Galleria Lara & Rino Costa, Valenza (2019). Together with the Galleria Lara & Rino Costa, Theo Gallino takes part in the most important art trade fairs.
